The Jaftica Scholarship Foundation was created in 2014 to honor Terry Smid for his love of education and mentoring. Beyond his love of education and family, he loved sailing. This scholarship was named after his sailboat, Jaftica. The initial endowment for this scholarship came from Terry & Pamela Smid and since has been supported by friends, family and members of our community. The scholarship is overseen by a board comprised of his descendants, close family friends and Leslie community members who understand his vision for supporting small town youths and their goals of becoming contributing members of society through their own passions. Since its inception The Jaftica Scholarship Foundation has been able to award upwards of $75,000 to Leslie graduates.
